Childcare (0–4 years)
Children can attend childcare before they turn 4. There are nurseries for children aged 0 to 4. There are also special childcare centres for children aged 2 to 4. You will find an overview of childcare in Peel en Maas on this website.
Primary school (ages 4–12)
Almost all children in the Netherlands start primary school from the age of 4. It is a good idea to enrol your child at a school from around the age of 3. That way, you can be sure there’s a place available. From the age of 5, your child is subject to compulsory education. This means that your child must attend school. Primary school lasts for 8 years. Secondary education (from the age of 12)
After eight years at primary school, children move on to secondary school. There are various levels of secondary education (VMBO, HAVO, VWO).
Vocational secondary education For 16–18-year-olds
